Dialogues with Nature

Many of the images in this presentation were taken in the Southwestern part of the United States. Like many of the artists of the last century of whom I study and admire, I fell in love with the natural beauty of the Southwest along with the Native Americans who have lived there for over 5,000 years. Over the years this love has manifested itself in many unexpected and delightful ways, this evenings presentation being one of them.

In bringing "Dialogues with Nature: Loma Kachi" to the Westchester Photographic Society I wish to give thanks and bring honor to all my teachers and friends who have played a part of my life. To my Native American friends who have shared their friendship and wisdom I am eternally grateful. To the artists who's work I have been so greatly influenced by, Ansel Adams, John Muir, Minor White, Georgia O'Keefe and so many others I owe a great debt of gratitude. A great deal of my passion for photography and for the world around me came from these great men and woman who showed me the importance of listening to your heart and when necessary taking the path least taken.

During my years of traveling across this country many people and the beauty of the landscape have touched me deeply. Although most of the images are landscapes we as human beings are intrinsically connected to the land. For millennium we have lived on this planet and coexisted together. In a spiritual way we took from nature only what was needed and lived for the most part in harmony with each other. Many honored the beauty, the medicinal value and reality found around them in the natural world. The truth and beauty of the natural world is undeniable. Yet today because of human expansionism, industrialism and economic priorities we are in danger of severely damaging this timeless connection.

What I present in Dialogues with Nature are simple abstract concepts of natural beauty and order. These photographs are a reflection of my deep inner feelings and experiences manifested through the art of photography. It's my hope that after viewing these photographs you too will experience the passion in my heart for my work, the natural world and all who inhabit this planet.
